Baked Beer Can Chicken in the Oven

Ingredients
  

  • 1/4 cup garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons seasoned salt
  • 2 tablespoons onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 2 12-ounce cans light-flavored beer, divided
  • 1 3-pound whole chicken
  • 4 green onions sliced
  • 4 green onions cut in half crosswise

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix garlic powder, seasoned salt, onion powder, oregano, salt, and black pepper in a bowl.
  3. Pour 1/3 of one beer can into a 9x13-inch baking dish and place the open can upright in the center.
  4. Rinse chicken, remove giblets, pat dry, and place chicken upright over the beer can.
  5. Cut small slits in each side of the breast and tuck wings into the slits.
  6. Rub seasoning mixture evenly over the chicken.
  7. Press sliced green onions onto the outside and insert halved green onions into the cavity.
  8. Pour half of the second beer can into the baking dish.
  9. Bake for 45 minutes. Pour remaining beer into the pan and bake 30 minutes more, until internal temperature reaches 180°F (82°C).
  10. Remove chicken, discard beer can, cover loosely with foil, and rest 10 minutes before slicing.
